Some types of shelving include.

1. Steel Shelving

Steel shelving happens to be the most common and popular type of shelving, whether for warehouses or retail. This is because of its inexpensive material, robust durability and being able to be purchased new or used and still take the brunt of whatever you need to organize and store without bending or collapsing.

Steel shelving systems are normally found to be best for products that are small or with carton storage within a warehouse, mostly because the steel shelving can be organized in both as normal floor units or high rise shelving systems for bigger warehouses. Not only that, but steel warehouse shelving is also very adjustable and extremely versatile.

When choosing steel shelving, you’ll also want to consider whether you’d prefer the clip style or the (more outdated) nut-and-bolt set-up. The clip style uses compression clips to make shelves height-adjustable while offering a sturdy foundation for even the heaviest materials. Clips are considered easier to manipulate than the nut-and-bolt style, which requires tools to adjust.

2. Rivet Shelving

Next to steel shelving, rivet shelving is just as durable and versatile. With no bolts and clips, it is one of the easier warehouse shelving systems to assemble quickly and efficiently for large-scale warehouses, making rivet shelving a very common type of shelving for warehouses that want to store heavier objects depending on the type of rivet shelving that they use.

Warehouses have the option of particle board or wire shelving, although wire might be best because it can endure most types of temperatures and weather. Rivet shelving also has better adjustments than say, for example, steel shelving for however many units you need to fit on the warehouse floor.

3. Wire Shelving

When you need better visibility of shelving as well as air circulation through the different shelving units, then wire shelving happens to be the best out there. Though, wire shelving sometimes is not as durable and strong as steel or rivet shelving, but it can still withstand quite a bit without rapidly becoming unusable.

Regardless, wire shelving makes the list as one of the most common types of shelving that warehouses can utilize–especially if they need better eyesight of products and want less dust collection from the shelving units. This type of warehouse shelving is also one of the easier types of units to assemble as quickly as possible for both smaller and larger scale warehouses.

4. Bulk Rack Shelving

Despite its name, bulk rack shelving isn’t really “bulky” at all. Instead, it’s a light-duty shelving that fits easily into smaller spaces. Durable and boltless, bulk rack shelving is easy to assemble and disassemble for one-time uses. It’s a good choice for hand-stacking materials and can even go mobile on bulk rack models equipped with casters.

5. Clipless Shelving

Clipless shelving like Lozier S-Series “backroom” shelving has gained in popularity. Generally constructed with steel bracing and particle board, this type of shelving is easy to install and very versatile. Though they are lightweight and easy to maintain, clipless shelves can hold an impressive 500 to 700 lbs depending on the base shelving unit.
